OUR WORK

Committed to Longevity in the Blue Zone

The Nicoya Peninsula Blue Zone Association works to improve the quality of life for vulnerable centenarians and nonagenarians. Through social support, research on longevity, and educational programs, we seek to preserve the knowledge and culture of one of the world’s longest-living regions.

OUR PROGRAMS

Longevity in the Blue Zone

Our programs promote the well-being of older adults, research on longevity, and education for future generations.

Support for centenarians

We provide assistance and support to vulnerable individuals over the age of 95 by monitoring their well-being and delivering essential supplies, in coordination with institutions such as the National Council for Older Adults (CONAPAM), the Joint Institute for Social Assistance (IMAS), private organizations, and volunteers.

Research on longevity

We support studies and initiatives aimed at understanding the factors that contribute to exceptional longevity in the Blue Zone of the Nicoya Peninsula.

Intergenerational education

We promote educational programs that teach younger generations about the importance of healthy aging and the culture of the Nicoya Peninsula.

OUR IMPACT

More than two decades supporting the elderly in the Blue Zone

More than 900 elderly people receiving care

Throughout our work, we have had the opportunity to meet and support nearly 900 centenarians on the Nicoya Peninsula.

More than 20 years of support

Since 2004, we have been visiting and checking in on older adults in the Blue Zone, supporting their well-being and learning about their lifestyle.

The 5 Blue Zone Cantons

Our work takes place in Nicoya, Santa Cruz, Carrillo, Hojancha, and Nandayure, communities where Costa Rica’s highest life expectancy is found.
